"The first time I read this book was on a plane and I cried for 2 hours after because it filled me with a sense of love and wonder so large that I didn’t know how to contain it. Some feelings aren’t meant to be contained, so I’m inviting you to share it with me." -Aakanksha, co-host We are hosting a live reading of Elif Shafak’s novel, 10 Minutes 38 Seconds in this Strange World, followed by a conversation. 10 Minutes 38 Seconds in this Strange World is a story of being turned away from the world, but still finding your place in it through the love of your friends, your “water family”. A story of people on the edges of society who, refusing to be contained by the scripts prewritten for them, build something together that is even deeper than blood. It is about people who show up. And keep showing up even after death. There is pain in this book, but also a reminder that there is so much love and joy to be found alongside the pain. Come to a live reading of a richly layered book. Come to be told a moving story about how deep friendship can run. Come to witness the strength of found families. Come so we can collectively explore how we show up for our people, how communities are built and what real solidarity can look like, even in our own lives. Or just come to form a new connection. You don’t need to have read the book. Come as you are. And bring your friends - your "water family"!
